Stefan De Vrij was interviewed by Dazn the night before the game against Sassuolo. The interview began by Stefan talking about the fact that tomorrow’s game will be played behind closed doors:

“It’s definitely better when the fans are there, but when the referee blows the first whistle, all I think about is the game, the ball, the opponents, and my teammates. I did not hear any of the chants against Koulibaly, I was focused on the game. Only after he received a red card did I start thinking for a moment, but I was unsure, it wasn’t until I saw all the news after the match.”

He then talked about Spalletti’s call that invited him to join Inter:

“I remember when Spalletti called me, not long before I made the decision to come to Inter. He explained why it was good for me to come to Milan, for my personal growth and also for the growth of the club. He was obviously not the only reason that made me come here though.”

Stefan, what is your idea of personal growth?

“There’s always something to be improved. I want to make the right choices on the pitch and improve whatever is missing in my performances. It’s the little details that make the difference.”

What about Godin’s arrival?

“Is Inter missing a player like Godin? That’s a question you should ask the club.”

What do you think of De Ligt?

“De Ligt is very impressive for his age. He is very strong and has a scary physique, but the thing that surprised me the most is his mentality: he always wants to grow and to improve. I told him that if he needs advice, he can call me, we have a great relationship off the pitch.”

Who was the most difficult attacker for you to deal with?

“It’s always a challenge for me to play against the best strikers. Suarez was one of the most difficult to mark, he’s always on top of you, he’s quick, and he always makes good runs.”

What about Icardi?

“Icardi is deadly in the box. He is very difficult to mark, because he waits for you to watch the ball and then he makes his runs. He trains well and is always focused.”

What do you like to do during the holidays?

“I love discovering new places. I like seeing beautiful places that I’ll never forget. Bali is a place I would go back to in the future, there is so much to do and it’s so different. South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar are all on my list of places to go to.”
