There will be no change to the Serie A start date despite several clubs voicing their concerns at the later start compared to other leagues in Europe according to a report from Milan based newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Inter, Juventus and Milan are all understood to have requested that the start date for the 2019/20 Serie A campaign is brought forward one week, in line with the start date of La Liga and Bundesliga and then just one week later than the Premier League rather than two.

Their requests came as a result of them wanting to reach European competition in a similar condition to their European opponents, who will all have had more time to get ready for the matches.

At a League Council meeting today, the decision was taken to stick with the original dates meaning the 2018/19 Serie A season will commence on the weekend of 24/25 August and will then end on May 24.
