Inter’s transfer plans were dealt a hammer blow yesterday as Edinson Cavani rejected a move to the Nerazzurri, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Cavani was expected to give his consent to a move after Inter approached the Paris Saint-Germain forward’s entourage earlier this week.

However, El Matador wants to know whether Neymar will stay in the French capital before making a decision on his own future.

“Essentially, Cavani thanked Inter for their interest but said he didn’t feel like asking PSG to sell him anytime soon,” Gazzetta reported this morning.

“He would be surplus to requirements in Paris if Neymar really did stay at the club, despite his strong relationship with Kylian Mbappe.

“This story is likely to drag on for a very long time, though, so he was frank with Inter and said he wasn’t ready to countenance a departure yet.”

Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio do not intend to waste more time pursuing Cavani and met Antonio Conte for another mini-summit at Appiano Gentle yesterday.

The Nerazzurri still have a residual hope of signing Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United, because Paulo Dybala has not yet accepted a move to the Premier League giants.

If the Belgian were to move definitively out of reach, Eintracht Frankfurt forward Ante Rebic and Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata would become more credible options.
