In an interview with FCInter1908.it, former Inter player Francesco ‘Ciccio’ Colonnese has reminisced about his time working with former Inter manager Luigi ‘Gigi’ Simoni.
“Simoni is unique. He was like a second father to me, I owe a lot to him. He is great man and great manager. Simoni’s Inter is one of the most loved Inter sides ever. Even President Moratti has always said that that team was the one that most of all remained in his thoughts.”
Next he spoke on Inter’s performance against Lecce and recent dip in form.
“Inter did not shine, for the first time in the season the two strikers did not make a difference, it can happen. There does not need to be any drama, Inter are a great team. As Conte has said, the team are running out of energy. Injuries have not helped things.”
He was then asked what he makes of Inter’s transfer market business so far and the potential additions of Olivier Giroud and Christian Eriksen.
“Ashley Young is an excellent signing. He has been one of the best in the Premier League in his role in recent years. With him and Moses, Inter have two players that are ideal for Conte’s game plan which involves lots of running.
“Eriksen is a great champion, he will bring a lot of quality and creativity. If Giroud is also added then Inter will take a huge leap in quality. Juventus are still ahead but with all these signings, Conte’s team will fight for the title until the end.”
He concluded by discussing the four points that separate Inter in second and Juventus at the top of the table.
“Four points are not that many. There are still many games to be played. Inter have to put a lot of pressure on Juventus.”
