Genoa president Enrico Preziosi discussed the idea of extending the upcoming summer transfer window to close at the end of the year in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I have no doubt, the standard duration, the summer duration, is already far too long. So, you can imagine my thoughts on four to five months of negotiations. It doesn’t exist. And the players could be influenced.”

The 72-year-old Italian entrepreneur further elaborated on the reasons why he is against an extended transfer window.

“Teams call, maybe they offer a lot of money and bigger contracts, they make promises, projects come up and agents move. And the players, in these conditions, what spirit would they take the field? I understand that we need a solution, personally, I could have one.”

Finally, Preziosi discussed his solution and highlighted how it could be the perfect idea for this situation.

“A shorter transfer window. Finish the official games maybe half way through or the end of July. So, the month of August alone, and I stress alone, would be for the market. Start playing again when September begins, 25-30 days would be more than enough.”

Genoa are one of the clubs likely to suffer from the extended transfer window, as it gives bigger teams more time to pick apart the successful parts of their squad. The Ligurian side sold Polish striker Krzysztof Piątek to AC Milan in January of 2019, but in this scenario, they would have likely lost the player much earlier in the season due to his strong performances straight from the beginning.

The idea of an extended transfer window is currently only an idea, with further discussions required.
