Italian journalist Sandro Piccinini discussed the battle between Inter and Juventus for this season’s Serie A title in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.
“Juventus? Well, let’s see what the market shows us by October 5th. I’d say that the economic strength of a team is very important.”
He highlighted how the Bianconeri’s tough financial situation puts pressure on them to perform, especially with Inter right behind them.
“Now Juve begins to face the first impact of their negative balance sheet, they will have to deal with a team like Inter that last year ended the season one point behind and have an economic power behind them.”
Finally, Piccinini suggested that the gap between the two rivals was almost fully closed now, creating a closer title race for this season.
“The financial gap has been closed, the technical one almost. I expect a close fight for the Scudetto.”
Inter finished Serie A last season one point behind Juventus, and work in the transfer window by the Nerazzurri has been looking to fix the gaps in the squad, creating an even more competitive squad for coach Antonio Conte.
The 51-year-old’s position at the club was confirmed in a meeting with the club’s executives back in August, and the transfer market policy has since changed to focus more on signing experienced veterans, suggesting that the Milanese club are looking to win the title this season rather than settle for second.
