Italian journalist Sandro Piccinini discussed this season, possible developments and teams that could look to beat Juventus for the Scudetto in an interview with Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb earlier today.
“We could imagine a short, one-way season as a plan B, and then playoffs and playouts, but we are saying this now. This summer the epidemic situation had improved.”
He spoke about which type of season he sees now.
“A nice one, Inter have closed the gap. Juve also had budget problems and the distances have been reduced. I haven’t forgotten Atalanta, who play the best football.”
The journalist also touched on other challengers for the league title, like Gennaro Gattuso’s Napoli.
“They worked well in the market, they’re strong, Gattuso knows how to do it. I don’t think he will be affected by the decisions of the sports judge regarding the match with Juve.
“As for the rest, Osimhen is very interesting, and one of the great market acquisitions.”
Finally, Piccinini suggested that Napoli may not be ready to fight for the Scudetto just yet, although the team could play a crucial role in the title race regardless.
“They are perhaps not suitable to enter the race, I do not know if they need time to give a tactical face to the team. They’re still a big team who puts pressure on various others.”
Inter coach Antonio Conte’s position as head coach was confirmed in a meeting with the Milanese club’s executives at the end of last season, with the team then focusing on signing experienced veterans like Arturo Vidal and Aleksandar Kolarov.
The Nerazzurri started the season strongly, with wins against Benevento and Fiorentina and a tight draw with Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio. Next weekend’s derby against AC Milan will be another key test for the 51-year-old Italian and his squad.
