Inter played a goalless draw away against Udinese at the Dacia Arena in Match Day 19 of the Serie A and threw away a golden chance to go on equal points with Milan in the top of the standings.
It was exactly the kind of performance you did NOT want to see after the phenomenal win against Juventus last week.
An impotent, slow and sometimes hapless Inter devoid of any creativity failed to create anything going forward against an Udinese that defended brilliantly throughout the match.
Samir Handanovic – 6: Not plenty of work to do, as was expected. Was alert when needed to be and did his part, meaning building from the back, without much fuss.
Milan Skriniar – 6,5: Obstructive presence in the back, always willing to put his foot in diverting the danger. Made of rock.
Stefan de Vrij – 6,5: Very reliable as we are accustomed to, did not provide Lasagna breathing space. Rarely puts a foot wrong. Shame for that assist to Lautaro.
Alessandro Bastoni – 5,5: Matured early, but still has plenty of room to improve. His awareness on occasion was off, and was late in challenge, hence the yellow.
Achraf Hakimi – 5,5: Looked as the greatest threat we have but with no execution today. Clumsy and indecisive throughout. A bad game today, let’s not forget he’s only 22.
Marcelo Brozovic – 6,5: He’s no Pirlo we can all agree but fulfills his role of a modern-day regista quite well, and today he did so. Precise with his distribution and defensively sound.
Nicolo Barella – 6,5: Another typical Barella performance from our tenacious talisman. And what a goal-of-the-season volley would that be had it gone in! So close.
Arturo Vidal – 6: Performed better in the last couple of matches, and today his combativeness provided both good and the bad. Still lacking sharpness but improving.
Ashley Young – 5,5: Well we knew he’s not that good defensively and it showed on occasion, but again he was not that good offensively either. Age catching up with him?
Lautaro Martinez – 5,5: Lovely control and finish but was fraction too early, goal rightfully overruled. Then made his former teammate Musso famous when was easier to score.
Romelu Lukaku – 6: Was notorious for his bad first touch, and today his touch was a bit off at times, but he tried hard linking our attacks. Had bad service, so no chances.
Ivan Perisic – 5,5: He’s not himself when not playing regularly and out of position, or better said his role. Looks like a beginner and not like a seasoned professional.
Stefano Sensi – 5,5: Lucky not to see red for that pull on delicious Lasagna-man. Should’ve passed towards Perisic in space instead of shooting, badly I may add.
Alexis Sanchez – 6: Fouled every time he touched the ball. His link with Hakimi again sparkled on one occasion, seems like those two have made a real connection.
Antonio Conte – 5: If his game plan does not work he has no trick in his sleeve to save the day. Udinese was prepared and he had no answers. Far too predictable.
Fabio Maresca – 5,5: He did not screw anybody here, but if he showed a red card to Arslan, Samir or Sensi nobody could complain in reality. Otherwise steady.
Inter – 5: Udinese is not Juve, meaning they’ll defend deep and with all men behind the ball, always. We had no answers. A positive – we kept a clean sheet.
