Inter are one of seven Serie A clubs backing DAZN to receive the league’s next batch of domestic TV rights, according to an Italian media report today.
As per Il Sole 24 Ore, the Lega Serie A is split over the future of TV rights and a potential agreement to sell the league’s media rights to a private equity consortium.
Inter and Juventus wanted to vote in favour of DAZN getting the rights yesterday, leading a group which also contains Lazio, Napoli, Fiorentina, Atalanta and Hellas Verona.
Giving the rights to DAZN is said to be a strategical move which would also make it harder for the private equity companies to get involved in the league, albeit the report did not explain how.
Lazio president Claudio Lotito is one of the most staunch opponents to a private equity consortium coming in, reportedly sounding out alternative arrangements like a loan from specialised funds Fortress – who were previously linked with buying into Inter – and Apollo.
The most pressing issue for clubs to sort out is the TV question, however, as this will give them a better idea of how much money they will be able to spend in the coming months.
