Inter are not getting the credit they deserve for being nine points clear in Serie A at the moment, an Italian media report has argued today.
Gazzetta dello Sport, via their online edition, said too many pundits and onlookers were trying to diminish the Nerazzurri’s exceptional form in Serie A by saying it was inevitable, or by arguing they were always favourites because they had the league’s best squad.
Sebastiano Vernazza pointed out that at the start of the season, few were confidently tipping Inter to be title winners this season, with many pointing towards Juventus’ greater squad depth, the youthfulness of AC Milan or even Atalanta and Lazio.
While arguments can certainly be made about Inter’s style of play, which is not always easy on the eye, what is undeniable is that they defend very well and know how to counterattack well too.
Antonio Conte’s style of play is one that is proving it can eventually brings success, and if Inter win the title this season, the report argued, it would be some feat.
Firstly, it would be historic as Inter would be the ones remembered for overthrowing Juventus, who have won the last nine Serie A titles in a row.
Secondly, it would be very impressive due to the great uncertainty around Inter’s ownership situation.
Suning are thinking about selling the club and chief executive Beppe Marotta, who has played a vital role in keeping the team together at this season, currently finds himself in hospital with COVID-19.
Conte has done well to take care of things on the pitch and recovered several players, most notably Christian Eriksen, who is now an important player in his team.
The report goes on to conclude that if Inter do win the title, it will have been by no means obvious and they will have had to overcome several obstacles to win it.
