Antonio Conte still hasn’t met Steven Zhang and there is no guarantee he ever will, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, Inter have suggested the meeting is no longer necessary because the club’s directors explained the plans for next season to Conte on Saturday, at Appiano Gentile.

Conte can now decide to stay or leave based on what he heard, but Inter’s head coach wants to hear everything in first person from Zhang without any intermediary figures.

He wants face-to-face talks with Inter’s president and expects answers about Suning’s ambitions for the future, otherwise he could leave.

Conte believes he has the right to know if Inter’s plans have changed since his appointment in 2019, the Milan-based paper suggested.

It will not be easy for the parties to find middle ground though, which might be why they are waiting so long to sit down together.

The standstill cannot last forever and it seems that the confusion will be clarified by the end of this week at the latest, the report assured.

Conte’s contract would not be a problem if he chose to leave the club, because everything would be ‘resolved amicably’ between him and Zhang.

It is still too early to get into such issues though, because first Conte wants to hear from Zhang about what the future holds for Inter.
