Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio has made clear that he is not aware of any negotiations between the Nerazzurri and Saudi sovereign wealth fund the PIF.
Speaking to DAZN ahead of the Nerazzurri’s match against Lazio this afternoon, the executive gave his thoughts on some key issues at the club, including the rumours of the PIF being interested in buying Inter.
Reports during the week suggested that an agreement could be close between current Inter owners Suning and the PIF that would see the Nerazzurri sold to the Saudi fund only days after they acquired Premier Legaue side Newcastle United.
However, denials of the reports followed, and Ausilio has reiterated that he isn’t aware of anything to suggest that such a sale would be close at hand.
Of this evening’s match, Ausilio noted that preparations were difficult given the lack of certain players who had been away on international duty, and the hectic few days at the end of the break.
“We are Inter and we are a strong and competitive team anyway, but it was not easy to prepare for such an important match with few players available,” he stated. “It is not good, it is not easy, it is impossible to think about postponements.”
He went on, “We are convinced we can still play a great match, whoever is on the bench will be able to lend a hand. Looking at the calendar it was impossible to postpone it, there is no space, we also have the Super Cup. The problem is having thought of putting three matches of the South American qualifiers in October.”
Of Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s return to Lazio he stated, “I see him calm, after 22 years there is a bit of emotion. When he is on the pitch he will be excited, but he is a great professional and will only have attention on Inter.”
And on accusations by Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso, he stated that “I respond only to my counterpart Pradé, I don’t respond to Commisso.”
Lastly, asked about the PIF he responded simply, “I don’t know who that is.”
