Former Inter defender Riccardo Ferri has played down Inter’s supposed issues in front of goal in recent weeks, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with FCInter1908, Riccardo Ferri labelled the criticism of Inter’s strikers as a cliche and explained how they have been creating and scoring more goals than any other Inter attack before them this season.

“It’s a cliché. Inter strikers are the ones who have scored the most goals ever. It’s an Inter team that creates a lot and scores regularly. If the team moves as it has always moved, the goals also come for Lautaro, as well as for Sanchez and Dzeko.

“Dumfries himself participated a lot in the scoring phase. It’s a momentary problem, now every match is decisive, both for Inter and for the teams you face that are looking for points to save themselves. You have to be very careful.”

Inter will be facing Genoa on Friday night at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and they will be hoping to put last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to Sassuolo behind them.

Riccardo Ferri feels that the approach that Inter took in that game was all wrong and they were missing some key reference points in the team.

“The approach was wrong with Sassuolo. Inter were going at a slow pace, they were spinning the ball slowly because they could not find the points of reference that usually exist like Brozovic, but also the same Bastoni and Dzeko.

“Three plays and the team were missing, the team gave up a bit, giving Sassuolo the opportunity to press and become dangerous even before the goal. Inter lost too many balls in the dangerous area. In the second half there was a great reaction. Sassuolo is an organized team and has personality players.”

Inter are being regularly linked with Sassuolo duo Gianluca Scamacca and Davide Frattesi and it is clear that the Nerazzurri are interested in them. Riccardo Ferri feels that they are good players and are held in high regard.

“We know them, they are two emerging players in our league, they will have a future in Italy too. Sassuolo is a team that continuously provides Italian talents. They are two players to be held in high regard.”
