Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is glad that the squad is as strong as it is with top players who are capable of fighting for major trophies this season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 win against Spezia, the Argentine gave his thoughts on the return of Romelu Lukaku as well as Milan Skriniar staying another season, and also praised the strength of the team.

Inter kept their perfect start to the season going with what was a fairly straightforward win over Spezia in the end, allowing the Ligurian team just two shots in total and neither on target whilst they were good value for their three goals.

Martinez had scored the Nerazzurri’s opener, an he was well set up by his old strike partner Lukaku who he is happy to be playing alongside once again, whilst he also gave his thoughts on the fact that it is now all but confirmed that Skriniar will not be leaving the club before the transfer window closes.

Of winning against Spezia and getting his first goal of the season, Martinez said that “It’s a great feeling. We came up against a compact team, who press well. But we did an excellent job and we have to keep going, we’ve just started. There’s still a long way to go.”

Of Lukaku’s return, Martinez said that “I’m glad he came back so that we can fight together. As soon as he arrived he said we have to fight as a team, and we’ve started. He gives us so much, we have to fight alongside him.”

“We’ve been talking since the day he left,” he admitted. “I’m happy, because he’s important to the team and he always gives us a lot.”

Regarding whether he expects Inter to win the Scudetto this season, the Argentine said that “I don’t know, we always want to improve, move forward and help each other.”

“We have four good forwards, we have to take advantage of each of our different characteristics,” he added.

And asked whether he’s glad that Skriniar is staying, Martinez said “Yes, because he’s incredibly important for us. We’ll fight to win every trophy this season.”
