Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that Milan Skriniar will stay at Inter and extend his contract with the club, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with DAZN ahead of the match against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Friday evening, via FCInternews, Beppe Marotta addressed the transfer speculation around Milan Skriniar.

He confirmed that the ownership will not be selling him despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain and he will be staying at the club.

“I can say that the ownership made it clear last week that they did not want to be persuaded by PSG’s bids. Skriniar is very important for us and he will certainly stay.”

He then also confirmed that a dialogue will be opened very soon to extend his contract which expires in June 2023.

“Milan is a very good boy, we will start a dialogue as soon as possible to tie him to Inter for many years. I am confident in his focus, this veiled threat to sign him for free will not change the loyalty of this player.”

Inter are still trying to sign a new central defender to complete that part of the squad and he confirmed that they are evaluating Lazio’s Francesco Acerbi.

“We are missing this last piece to complete the squad. There are several options and we are evaluating them, in the coming days we will reach a conclusion. Acerbi has been proposed to us, we are evaluating the player who will be our final purchase.”

When asked if it is a three-way race with Manuel Akanji and Trevoh Chalobah, he said: “Definitely yes, for now.”

When asked if there are any other cheap options in the market that have yet to be fully explored, he said: “I think so, we for fortunate have set up a full squad. But I hear of players who are still looking for clubs, it’s part of an atypical market because playing in the open market is difficult for coaches, clubs and the players themselves. But between now and the end of the market some moves will be made.”

He also admitted that Inter have been given a very hard Champions League group this season: “It will be a very difficult round, but we have to count on our strengths and our experience gained last year.

“We are dealing with highly respected opponents, but we must not fear them. We will know the schedule tomorrow, we have to manage a lot of matches with the group that will close in November and then there will be a competitive compression.

“We have to check the preparedness of the players, it will be a unique year.”

Ahead of the Lazio game he was asked about the previous meetings: “Recalling last year’s match? These are things that the coach takes care of, he knows the opponent well. We are calm”.
