Former Inter striker Antonio Cassano has said that the Barcelona game was a great match for Inter and he did not expect them to play so well, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking via his own Instagram account, via FCInternews, the former striker seemed very surprised by how Inter had played in the game that ended 3-3 at Camp Nou.

It was a result that means Inter are almost through to the Round of 16, which is a financially lucrative position to be in as they stand to earn an additional €20 million from reaching that stage.

Antonio Cassano must have thought that Simone Inzaghi’s side were going to be beaten by the Blaugrana though as he said: “I didn’t expect the Inter performance.

“It was a great game. I didn’t think they would go there to Barcelona and play with courage and ideas.

“At Camp Nou it’s very difficult and they deserved to win.”

He also talked about how Inter should have won the game at the very end when Kristjan Asllani got through on goal but decided to shoot rather than square it to Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

“And in the end Asllani could have made it 4-3: he found himself there and shot, amen, they shouldn’t criticise him.

“Great game from the forwards and also the midfielders. The defence was also very solid despite the three goals conceded.”
