Inter are still optimistic that defender Milan Skriniar will decide to extend his contract, and are expecting his response to their contract offer in mid-January.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, who report that the Nerazzurri feel that the signs which have emerged from the most recent talks with the player and his representatives have remained positive.

Inter had hoped to have a new contract agreed with Skriniar by Christmas.

Now that this deadline has come and gone, uncertainty has emerged as to the direction of the negotiations.

However, the talks are far from over between the Nerazzurri and the 27-year-old and his representatives.

Even in the most recent rounds of talks, Skriniar has given Inter clear indications that he is inclined towards staying and extending his deal.

Now, the Nerazzurri will have to wait until the Slovakian’s response arrived, which they expect to come in mid-January.
