Inter defender Francesco Acerbi is hoping that he can have his loan made permanent by the Nerazzurri, and also that Milan Skriniar decides to extend his contract.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the team’s 1-0 friendly win over Sassuolo, via FCInterNews, the 34-year-old gave his thoughts on the future, both his and Skriniar’s.

Acerbi is still only at Inter on loan from Lazio, technically.

Meanwhile, his defender teammate Skriniar has yet to make a decision on whether or not to accept a contract extension offer from the club.

As far as Acerbi is concerned, the defensive situation at Inter is solid, and he is hoping that both he and Skriniar end up staying past the end of the current season.

“On a personal level, I’ve always been clear,” the defender said, “I’ll give everything to succeed as I’ve always done, and try to help the team.”

“We’ll talk about the future later, it’s only natural that I want to stay, but even if I don’t I’ll have enjoyed my time here,” he continued.

“I’m very calm about it,” Acerbi said.

“And as far as Milan’s situation is concerned, it’s a situation between he and the club,” the defender added.

“I hope that he stays, but he’s old enough to make his own decisions.”

Speaking about Nerazzurri captain Samir Handanovic, Acerbi said that “He’s always been a leader, and is even when he isn’t playing.”

“Samir is very important for the group,” the 34-year-old explained of his teammate, “someone who’s such an important figure would undoubtedly be missed if he were to leave.”

“It will be between he and the club to decide on his contract, but I hope that he stays.”

Acerbi also spoke highly of the Nerazzurri’s performance in their friendly win over Sassuolo, calling it “The best match we’ve played this month, from all points of view.”

“It felt like a real match, we were sharp and lively, and it feels good to head into our match against Napoli on the back of a good result.”

“We got more playing time in our legs which is important,” he added.
