Inter are waiting for defender Milan Skriniar’s response to their contract extension offer after the Supercoppa Italiana match against AC Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri and the player will shift their focus to the return to the pitch over the coming days, with the decisive resumption of contract talks set for mid-January.
Skriniar still has not given his response to Inter’s contract offer, with the timeline increasingly compressed for the club to receive their answer.
Whilst the Nerazzurri have gone essentially as high as they can go within the structure of their budget, the Corriere reports that there would likely be room for them to improve their offer slightly with add-ons or a different structure to the deal should that be required to convince the 27-year-old.
On the other hand, if Skriniar makes clear that he wants a much higher offer, Inter cannot get close to the deal offered by Paris Saint-Germain.
This is the situation as it stands, and will be dealt with in mid-January, with the Corriere reporting that developments will arrive after the Supercoppa clash with Milan.
In the meantime, the Nerazzurri return to the pitch today with a Serie A match against league leaders Napoli, a match in which Skriniar will wear the captain’s armband.
