Inter defender Milan Skriniar was greeted with indifference, but not with any real hostility in a match which could very well have been his final one in an Inter shirt.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that while there was not a great enthusiasm directed at the 27-year-old from the crowd, his reception was respectful.
It now looks clear that Skriniar will leave Inter, whether it is at the end of his contract or even this month to join Paris Saint-Germain.
Yesterday’s Serie A clash with Empoli was the first match where Inter fans will have been aware of the player’s intentions, having spent previous matches imploring him to stay on and become the full-time captain.
If boos were expected in response to the Slovakian’s decision, they were barely heard, as the Curva Nord’s statement urging fans not to jeer or whistle the player were largely heeded.
However, in a match which saw Skriniar sent off so that he will not be available for Inter’s next match, and in which the player may well be off before the end of the month, the player was hardly received with the same affection as he’ll have become used to.
