Inter are considering whether it is worth committing to signing Romelu Lukaku on loan again next season after another underwhelming performance.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Belgium international was still some way short of his best during yesterday’s 2-1 win over Cremonese in Serie A, with the striker a second half substitute at the Stadio Giovanni Zini.

Lukaku joined Chelsea in a €115 million deal in 2021 but returned to Inter on loan last summer after a poor season in the Premier League, though his comeback has been blighted by injury.

Whilst coach Simone Inzaghi is adamant that the former Manchester United striker can come good again, the club are wary of renewing his loan and spending significant funds if he is unable to regain his form and fitness.

Lukaku is described as being someway short of being able to start matches, particularly in crucial fixtures, and it is almost impossible that he will be considered to lead the line in the Coppa Italia against Atalanta on Tuesday.

Evaluations are ongoing as to whether it is worth bringing Lukaku back next season, with such discussions considered unthinkable when he first arrived.
