Inter striker Romelu Lukaku was very happy at the reception that the San Siro gave his winning goal against Porto in the Champions League yesterday evening.

Speaking to UEFA TV, via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old thanked the Nerazzurri fans in the stadium for their roar of approval when he found the winner on the night to give his team an advantage heading into the second leg of their round of sixteen tie.

As the final whistle loomed, it had started to look as though Inter would have to settle for a goalless draw to take to Porto for the second leg of their Champions League tie.

However, Lukaku broke through, finally making the Nerazzurri’s second-half pressure tell.

The moment was one of relief from the players and also the crowd, who could celebrate something concrete.

Meanwhile, for the Belgian, it was an important goal that further indicated that he is starting to get back to his best following struggles for fitness and form this season.

“It was fantastic,” Lukaku said of the roar at the San Siro.

“Having the fans support you for ninety minutes is fantastic, they helped us win.”
