Inter Milan legend Beppe Bergomi won’t be surprised if Hakan Calhanoglu is benched in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal clash with AC Milan.

Bergomi stated this whilst on air as a pundit for Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, as reported via Milan based Inter Milan news-site FcInterNews.

The former Nerazzurri captain argued that given how AC Milan play, he wouldn’t be surprised if Calhanoglu started the clash on the bench and neither should the former Rossoneri midfielder be either.

The 1982 FIFA World Cup winner with Italy argued further that the rotation policy enacted by Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has served the club well in recent matches.

“Inter have been rotating heavily in last four or five matches, having the entire squad available, especially in attack.

“At the moment, Inter’s offense is working well, whereas before they created a lot but didn’t finish their chances. Now, the strikers have become important, Lukaku above all” Bergomi continued.

“However, against Milan, I believe Lautaro and Dzeko will play. It wouldn’t surprise me if Calhanoglu were left out [of starting lineup], and it shouldn’t surprise him either.

“He’s a good guy, and he would certainly struggle to accept being left out, but if Milan plays with three midfielders, I think Inzaghi might choose Brozovic because Brahim Diaz creates more problems for him [Calhanoglu] in this situation” Bergomi concluded.

Inter Milan On Five Game Winning Streak

Inter are in a five-game winning streak across all competitions, with four of these coming in the Serie A where they have scored 15 goals in total, 14 of which have come in the league.

In fact, their unbeaten streak extends to six matches across all competitions when one includes the 3-3 draw against Benfica in the return leg of the Champions League quarterfinal at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

The Nerazzurri’s last defeat came in a 1-0 loss at home in the Serie A against Monza, in a game they dominated but failed to score in leading to former Inter Primavera player Luca Caldirola scoring the only goal of the game.
