Former Inter Milan striker Aldo Serena believes both Inter and AC Milan should put all their eggs in the Champions League basket and sacrifice Serie A to win Europe’s elite club tournament.

Serena argued this point speaking in a recent interview with the print edition of Italian newspaper Il Giorno, as reported via Milan based Inter Milan news-site FcInterNews.

The former Nerazzurri and Rossoneri striker believes that given neither club has a rich owner together with fact that they are locked in a dogfight for a top four Serie A finish, the best thing to do is to focus on winning the Champions League.

“Milan and Inter are in a situation where they have no certainty of being in the Champions League next year. There is an economic relevance too, and by reaching the final, they have the chance to earn access to next year’s competition, by winning it.

“Not having wealthy owners, the Champions League is fundamental” Serena began.

Play Best Lineup In Champions League

The former Italy striker continued saying if it were up to him he’d start his strongest lineup in the Champions League and not in the Serie A.

“I would play the best team in the European competition because it gives the possibility of winning a trophy. I would take the risk of going all-in.

“If Inter, after big games, have struggled, it means that they have not been able to absorb the commitment in many aspects, that they have not been entirely ready for the next battle.

“Inter manages to find itself in big matches, but always seeming to have amnesia, thay can win or lose against anyone.

“I believe that playing against Milan and thinking of pushing too much into the opponent’s half, could be penalizing because they are an opponent who knows how to intercept the ball.

“In the final, whichever of the Milan clubs that go through, they will find Real or City who will be favored on paper, but football has proven many predictions wrong in the past,” Serena concluded.
