Inter Milan have made a clear policy to extend their top players’ contracts early to avoid another Milan Skriniar situation.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who detail the Nerazzurri’s reasons for wanting to extend the deals of defender Alssandro Bastoni and midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu very early on.

New contracts look imminent for both Bastoni and Calhanoglu.

Both players have publicly stated as much. Moreover, the reports have been widespread that the new deals are only a few formalities away.

According to Tuttosport, the key thing will be securing Champions League qualification for next season.

Should Inter do so in their final two matches of the Serie A season, the newspaper anticipate that the new deals will be made official some time before the Champions League final against Manchester City next month.

Inter Milan To Avoid Another Milan Skriniar Debacle At All Costs

Inter are pushing through talks with both Bastoni and Calhanoglu. This is in spite of the fact that both stars’ current deals are more than a year away from expiring.

According to Tuttosport, this is because Inter have made a new policy to not allow top players in the squad to go into the final year of their contract without a new deal in place.

The Nerazzurri have learned from bitter experience what can happen in that case.

Inter decided to keep hold of Milan Skriniar last summer, declining big money offers from Paris Saint-Germain for the former Sampdoria defender.

Then, this season, Inter offered the Slovakian a new deal. However, Skriniar decided to decline the Nerazzurri’s offer.

The 28-year-old will join PSG on a free transfer for next season.

Inter would have absolutely zero intention of risking a similar situation with Bastoni or Calhanoglu.

In fact, Inter have been reportedly willing to sell Bastoni this summer if the 24-year-old doesn’t sign a new deal. The likes of Man City, Juventus, and PSG are all reportedly keen.
