Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has received top marks for his performance against AC Milan in the derby – even though he failed to get himself on the scoresheet.
L’Interista highlight the positive grades that the Argentine received in the player ratings for the match across Italian media.
In Inter’s three matches before the international break, Martinez got off to a flying start in front of goal.
The 26-year-oled averaged more than a goal a game, scoring a whopping five goals from just three matches.
But that run always had to come to an end sometime.
The fact that Martinez was misfiring for the first time all season in the derby against Milan could have come as a worry.
Yesterday’s match was the Nerazzurri’s most important so far this season, by some distance. And prior to the international break, there had been one or two worries about Inter becoming too dependent on their captain for goals.
But there was no need for worry – Inter managed to put five past their city rivals.
Lautaro Martinez Crucial To Win Vs AC Milan Despite Failing To Score
Martinez may not have been able to get in on the scoring in Inter’s most prolific attacking display yet this season.
However, that is not to say that the 26-year-old didn’t play a crucial role in the performance.
As usual, Martinez was the player who set the tone for Inter in every since.
The Argentine’s linkup play was key to getting the best out of Marcus Thuram, who did score. And his defensive workrate was important in denying the Rossoneri much space in which to build up possession.
Then, Martinez won the penalty from which Hakan Calhanoglu scored Inter’s fourth goal.
The Corriere dello Sport grade Martinez’s performance at 7/10.
Meanwhile, the Gazzetta dello Sport, Tuttosport, TuttoMercatoWeb, and L’Interista all give Martinez a score of 7.5/10.
