Former Inter Milan and Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey feels that AC Milan showed some presumption in the derby.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster RDS, via FCInterNews, Frey suggested that the Rossoneri players were overconfident in the buildup to their 5-1 thrashing at the hand of the Nerazzurri, and showed little sympathy for fans of Milan.
Inter’s win in the derby, obviously, meant a lot more than just three points for the Nerazzurri. And for Milan.
And even the potential Serie A title implications of the result were far from the most significant aspect of the win.
Inter managed to get their fifth win in a row against Milan. That was the first time that they had ever achieved this in a sequence of derby matches, and means that Inter have beaten the Rossoneri every single time they’ve faced across three competitions.
Sebastien Frey Reacts To Inter Milan Thrashing AC Milan 5-1 In Derby
As far as whether he holds out any sympathy for Rossoneri fans, Frey replied “Let’s say that the AC Milan fans didn’t put themselves in my shoes after the 6-0 [Frey was in goal for a rout by Milan in the derby].”
“I don’t think Milan should talk too much,” he continued. “In 2023, they’ve lost all of the derbies they’ve played.”
“Inter have shown that they’re superior to Milan, and I’m happy for that.”
“In the most recent derby the Nerazzurri dominated the match, they were superior from start to finish.”
“Before the match I heard a couple of Milan players who said they were convinced they would win,” Frey continued.
“I was taught to speak after, not before, the match.”
“Inter spoke little, and made their statement on the pitch.”
Frey also had words regarding a couple of players in the Inter squad.
“Federico Dimarco has a strong sense of belonging here,” he suggested. “He’s someone who carries the Inter shirt with him deeply.”
“We know the path he’s taken, and today he is one of the irreplaceable players of this team,” he said of the wingback.
Frey also gave the view that “Lautaro Martinez has always been a very generous player. He has a kind of physicality that allows him to help the team in both the offensive and defensive phases.”
Frey suggested of Martinez that “The captaincy has given him more responsibility, and a desire to help, as well as charisma.”
“He’s one of the leaders of this Inter.”
