Salernitana coach Paulo Sousa is thinking about switching to a back four system for this evening’s Serie A match against Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Salernitana have gotten off to a torrid start to the 2022-23 season.

The Granata have yet to register a win over the first six matches of the campaign.

And only Cagliari have recorded a lower points tally than Salernitana’s so far. The Campania-based team sit on three points so far, the same total as Empoli and Udinese.

And moreover, the trajectory has not been a positive one for Salerntiana.

The Granata had gotten off to a decent start to their season by securing a 2-2 draw away to Roma, and then another point against Udinese.

But ever since then, Sousa’s team have floundered. They were well-beaten by both Empoli and Torino, and on Wednesday suffered perhaps their most damaging result of the season yet.

Empoli, who had not gotten a point or scored a goal in Serie A prior to this week, finally got their first win of the campaign.

The Tuscans fully deserved their three points, whilst Salernitana looked far off the pace against direct relegati0n rivals.

Salernitana Paulo Sousa Could Go With Change Of System Vs Inter Milan – Dia May Be Back

And Salernitana’s next match is not going to be an easy one.

Even though Inter will perhaps be suffering a bit of a hangover from Wednesday’s surprise defeat against Sassuolo, the Nerazzurri had still won every single one of their matches prior to that in the season.

According to the Gazzetta, Sousa may act proactively.

The newspaper report that the coach is seriously considering changing the formation.

So far this season, Sousa has gone with a 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 shape. But against Inter this evening, he could switch it up to a back four.

The coach’s job could be on the line. It would be no time for complacency.

And in terms of personnel, Salernitana will be without Antonio Candreva.

But the Granata could get a boost in the form of a return to the starting eleven for striker Boulaye Dia.

The Senegalese has yet to feature this season amid some transfer market drama. But he could lead the line in a new-look formation.

Dia was Salernitana’s main man last season, scoring sixteen goals. Therefore, having the 26-year-old back would be a boost.

And defender Flavius Daniluc and midfielder Mateusz Legowski are the other two player who the Gazzetta predict could come into Salernitana’s starting eleven along with a shift in formation.
