Al-Ettifaq coach Steven Gerrard is desperate for January reinforcements, which could lead him to pursue Inter Milan striker Alexis Sanchez.

The club currently lies in the 9th place in the Saudi Pro League standings while we approach the halfway point of the season.

While Al-Ettifaq isn’t one of the top four Saudi clubs under the banner of the PIF, it remains an ambitious side that is looking to improve its spot.

Gerrard admitted as much while urging the management to bolster the ranks with new stars in January.

“We have to see what will happen in the upcoming window and then in the summer. we want to compete on top of the table. We don’t want to be where we are today,” admitted the Liverpool icon as quoted by Tribal Football via FcInterNews.

“I hope that in January we will see a different, stronger and more competitive team.

“We have already had some important meetings on mid-season plans. We have to become aggressive, ferocious and we need many changes to be more competitive.”

While Gerrard didn’t drop any names, the source claims that Sanchez has emerged as a possible transfer target for Al-Ettifaq.

The 35-year-old rejoined the Nerazzurri in the summer after spending a solitary campaign at Marseille. However, he has been dealing with recurring physical problems that have limited his appearances.

The Chilean legend made six Serie A outings this season but is yet to score his maiden league goal. However, he managed to net twice in the Champions League this term.

The former Barcelona, Arsenal and Man Utd star’s contract with the Nerazzurri will expire at the end of the season.
