The City Council of Milan will reveal their renovation plans for the San Siro, hoping to convince Inter Milan and their crosstown rivals AC Milan.

The two Serie A giants launched a shared stadium project in 2019. They were aiming to demolish the current venue and build a modern stadium in its stead.

However, their plans were derailed by a plethora of bureaucratic hurdles, culminating with a restraint order preventing them from demolishing the current stadium, citing its historic and cultural value.

Thus, Inter and Milan went in separate directions. The Nerazzurri are looking to build their own stadium in the Rozzano region. As for the Rossoneri, they identified the San Donato region as the region that will host their new ground.

Nevertheless, Milano’s municipality remains hellbent on keeping the two clubs within the city wall.

According to La Repubblica via FcInterNews, the City Council will unveil a renovation plan for the San Siro on the 31st of January.

This plan would reportedly cost circa 300 million euros. The renovation would allow the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium to host 75,000 fans.

City Council Hoping To Convince Inter Milan & AC Milan In San Siro Renovation Plan

However, Inter and Milan had initially rebuffed this plan for logistic reasons. They also claimed that it’s unlikely to deliver cutting-edge results.

Nevertheless, the City Council is still hoping to convince the Serie A duo and have them reconsider their decision by adding a few tweaks to the project.

The council will offer a feasibility study at the end of the month. If the two clubs welcome the idea, the process will continue to the next stages.
