Inter Milan are eyeing up a possible free transfer opportunity for next summer in the form of PSV defender Olivier Boscagli.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Il Giorno, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that the Nerazzurri see the Frenchman as a prospective long-term replacement for Francesco Acerbi.

Inter are thinking about the future of their defense this summer.

On the one hand, the Nerazzurri are reportedly looking to sign a player who can play on the left of the back three for next season.

Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio has acknowledged that this is the club’s strategy.

Inter want to sign a left-footed player who can add depth in the back three. That way Carlos Augusto can exclusively play at wingback while Tajon Buchanan recovers from a leg break.

But that is not the only kind of defender Inter want to sign in the next twelve months.

Inter Eye Up Free Transfer Of PSV Defender Olivier Boscagli Next Summer

Inter will also aim to sign a player who can play in the centre of their back three either this summer or next.

At the moment, Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij are the main options for that position.

If de Vrij – a target for Al-Ittihad – were to leave this summer, Inter would sign a replacement.

On the other hand, if Acerbi and de Vrij both stick around then the Nerazzurri would wait until next summer.

However, both of the two former Lazio defenders are now well into their thirties. And both see their contracts expire at the end of next June.

One possibility to hold down the centre of the back three in the long-term would be Boscagli.

The 26-year-old’s current deal with Dutch champions PSV runs until the end of next June.

Therefore, Boscagli could be available on a free transfer next summer.

And Inter certainly have a penchant for taking advantage of these kinds of opportunities.

Boscagli made 47 appearances for PSV last summer as the Eindhoven-based club won the Eredivisie title and reached the round of sixteen of the Champions League.
