Legendary German striker Miroslav Klose notes how Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi made leaps and bounds over the years.

The Piacenza native has now established himself among the most renowned tacticians in Italy and Europe.

The 48-year-old collected six trophies in his first three campaigns with the Nerazzurri, including last season’s Serie A title. He also led the club to the Champions League final in 2023.

However, Inzaghi’s managerial career began at Lazio, and Klose was one of the early witnesses of the Italian’s arrival on the scene.

When Lazio sacked Stefano Pioli in April 2016, they appointed Inzaghi as a caretaker coach until the end of the season.

At the time, Klose was still a member of the Biancocelesti squad. Nevertheless, the German insists that Inzaghi is now at a completely different level.

“I played under Inzaghi in his first seven games as head coach,” noted the former Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich bomber in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“I have to say that he has improved a lot in terms of tactics. He now has more skills and reads the games very well.

“Compared to his early days, Simone has made giant leaps and he’s still improving with every passing year.”

The iconic German striker has also launched a coaching career of his own, and is currently in charge of 2. Bundesliga club FC Nuremberg.

Klose admits that he draws inspiration from Inzaghi’s path.

“Inzaghi’s improvement motivates me because he’s proving that by working hard you can achieve great results.”

The 46-year-old hung up his boots in 2016 just before Inzaghi was appointed permanent manager at Lazio following a row between the hierarchy and Marcelo Bielsa who vacated his post just two days after his arrival.
