Matteo Marchetti will be the referee for Wednesday evening’s Serie A clash between Empoli and Inter Milan.

The Lega Serie A confirm the officiating teams for the round of fixtures, via FCInterNews. Marco Serra will be on VAR duty.

On Wednesday, Inter travel to face Empoli in their tenth Serie A match of the season.

The Nerazzurri were only just in action yesterday. They played what will surely go down as one of the most memorable matches of their season, a 4-4 draw against Juventus.

But Inter can hardly pause to reflect on that remarkable match.

The fixture list is starting to really pile up. And so Inter are already thinking about their next match in Serie A.

Like Inter, Empoli took a point from their most recent match. Their 1-1 draw away to Parma was not exactly as dramatic as the Derby d’Italia, but it had its share of excitement.

The Tuscans have been one of the form teams early on in the Serie A season.

Preseason predictions identified Empoli as one of the prime candidates for relegation. Last time out they only avoided the drop with a dramatic final day victory over Roma.

But instead, Roberto D’Aversa has given the Tuscans a firm foothold in midtable.

Therefore, Inter will hardly be underestimating Wednesday’s match.
