A visibly upset Walter Mazzarri was interviewed by Sky Sport after the heavy defeat against Milan at the San Siro.

“We didn’t play a good match today and that was evident for all to see. In the first half we were a little bit better but in the second half we weren’t ourselves. Against napoli we played a great match but the derby is obviously a completely different match and Milan were by contrast much more physical, more determined and so they won the match.”

“In the dressing room everyone was devastated and there was nothing to say. Tomorrow morning we will have a training session and I will tell you right now what I will have in mind. We have to think about Lazio because our league position is still in our hands. I hope to forget about this match and start preparing mentally for the next match against Lazio. We haven’t conceeded so much before. We didn’t play how I want us to play: in the second half they gained areas of the pitch they are good in these circumstances.”

“We haven’t been able to suffer without conceeding as well as starting over again. We have to put this derby behind us which was not pretty at all. Our midfield didn’t press theirs? We weren’t even fast when going forward on the wings. In the first half we did, but then our passing let us down when making the final pass. They were more energetic even in winning the second balls. Unfortunately this was the derby, but a match to forget. I told the boys not to lose their heads and to be mean, but this had nothing to do with them not having any energy. These things can happen and I will speak to the boys tomorrow.”

“We are able to handle a match and we have to be able to reach the highest levels. We conceded two half counter-attacks, but in the end nothing like that. We always enter the pitch with the mindframe to win. Tonight we were clumsy and slow and we misinterpreted the tension on the pitch. Am I referring to Kovacic? No. He played a good game Also a coach shouldn’t speak of individual players, the entire team had to do more. The more experienced players have to lend him a hand. After a match like this, everyone, starting with me, haave to take responsibility. I hope this frustration gives us the shock to restart. Therefore, Milan never created any big chances, so I repeat we weren’t brave enough to play how we usually play.”
