Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez struck a calm but determined tone ahead of this evening’s Serie A clash against Bologna, underlining both the importance of the occasion and the collective effort required to secure three points.

Speaking first to Inter TV, via FCInterNews, in the pre-match build-up, Lautaro reflected on the Nerazzurri closing 2025 at the top of the table.

Meanwhile stressing that focus must now be firmly on the task at hand.

He explained that Inter need to combine quality with the right mentality to overcome a Bologna side that has caused problems in recent seasons.

“Happy New Year to everyone,” the Inter captain said.

“We finished 2025 in first place and that was important. Today we need a match full of quality and the right attitude to take the three points.

“In recent years the results against Bologna haven’t been positive, but we’ve prepared this game well to win it. Everyone is ready and available, and everyone has to give something extra.”

Lautaro repeated that message when speaking to DAZN shortly before kick-off, again highlighting the intensity expected from the visitors.

“The results against Bologna recently haven’t been good,” he admitted.

“We need a great performance because they bring a lot of intensity so we have to be ready. We prepared the match in the right way and we’re ready to play it in the best possible manner.”

The Argentina international was also asked about his attacking partner Marcus Thuram, with fans eager to see more goals from the Frenchman.

Lautaro was quick to defend Thuram’s contribution, emphasising his importance beyond just scoring.

“Marcus does an important job for the team,” he explained.

“He scored in Bergamo but it was ruled out for offside because of me. The most important thing is that Inter win. Everyone has to give 100 per cent for their teammates, for the team and for the fans who always support us.”

Looking ahead to the title race, Lautaro was clear that nothing can be taken for granted. “There are many teams close together,” he concluded.

“It’s very difficult. We have to stay focused until the last matchday because it’s a very balanced league.”
