Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur have reached a verbal agreement worth €40m for Cristian Romero, with sporting director Piero Ausilio publicly confirming that active discussions are underway to bring the Argentina international to the Nerazzurri.

According to Goal.com, citing SportMediaset, the clubs have agreed on the €40m figure – well below Tottenham’s initial valuation of approximately €50m. The deal is expected to be structured as a loan with a mandatory purchase clause rather than a straightforward cash transfer.

Ausilio confirmed Inter’s hand on Sky Italy, saying the club is actively working to conclude a deal with both the player and Spurs, acknowledging that finalising the agreement will take some time but that interest is firm. Romero’s representatives were spotted in Milan this weekend for face-to-face meetings with the Inter hierarchy, a significant logistical step that underlines how advanced negotiations have become.

Romero Eyes Serie A Return as Spurs Move On

Romero, 28, made 156 appearances for Tottenham since arriving from Atalanta in 2021 and was central to the squad that won the Europa League last season. However, four separate suspensions during the 2025-26 campaign and a deteriorating relationship with supporters accelerated Spurs’ willingness to sanction his exit, as reported by FourFourTwo via Yahoo Sports.
