Roberto Mancini held a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Serie A fixture away against Udinese.
“We mustn’t underestimate our opponents, We’ll need to perform well tomorrow night if we’re to win the game, it won’t be easy. The side we saw against AC Milan was clearly one on the up and their coach knows Inter well.”
“We’re not quite at the level where we can say we’ve cracked it but I think the team has improved week by week, even when results weren’t going our way. We are limited in certain areas and we still make mistakes but there’s been a clear improvement and we can now say we’ve become a team. Now we have to keep working in this direction. The squad is united and full of good lads and consummate professionals. A win doesn’t change anything, even though Roma are a great side. “We have a clear idea of how we want to play. The personnel and formation might change but you always have to go out there looking to win. We went all out for it against Roma. Unfortunately whether we qualify for Europe or not is out of our hands, but we have to give our all to try and win our remaining games and hope one of the sides above us falters.”
In conclusion Mancini stated that “we have two players suspended at the back and a couple of options available to us. Medel could drop back. Felipe is quality, he’s an experienced player and is doing well. Over time Mateo Kovacic might be able to play in front of the back four, he has what it takes to do so. He came on and did well on Saturday night, his approach was good. I believe Hernanes’ best position is behind the strikers and he can bring a touch of unpredictability to our play. As for Shaqiri, we tend to be impatient in this country. That shouldn’t be the case when you’re talking about a player joining from a different league and different country. The same goes for Podolski, he’s a great professional but it takes time to settle. Plus his situation is a little different in that he’s on loan from Arsenal and could rejoin them come the end of the season.”

I don’t understand why everybody talking about Shaqiri as a winger. Mark my words, Shaqiri it’s not a winger and never will be good one. He shined in Bazel and Switzerland national team as a attacking midfielder or trequarista. After that in Bayern Guardiola try to make him winger and that’s one of the reasons he fails there. To be successful winger there’s other qualities speed, good one on one play, good crossing and that’s not what Shaqiri have.

Medel can drop down as a cb for this game and Kovacic can start as a DM instead. His vision, long balls and through passes are well needed in attack, and his defensive abilities have increased this year. I’d like to see him in this role. And also Shaq as a second striker instead of Palacio.

The reason why kovacic cant develop under mancini is because mancini style of play asking the players to prevent holding, dribbling the ball too much. And that’s the particular feature of kovacic to dance in midfield.. mancini doesnt like it. You can clearly see in kovacic expression under mancini with kovacic under mazzarri.. he lost his freedom to dribble with ball under mancini. We can barely see him do it.. kovacic under strama with a plenty of freedom to dribble and space in front of defense make him one of the best young midfielder in the world. HoPefully mancini will realize it.
I get what you mean. Although What’s the point if you keep showing off skills in midfield yet the team loses, remember no player should be bigger than the team.. Mancini wants kovacic to dribble but he wants him to make every touch and dribble decisive, which I repeatedly said will make a him a world class player.

That’s what I’ve been thinking dude over a long time ago…. that’s actually Kovacic’s first role under Stramaccioni. He’s more like Fabregas or Xavi who can keep possession and eye killer passes. His dribbling is good but you can’t expect him to dribble past the defenders as attacking midfielder.
I think he has been training and improving his defensive side and he did, previously his defensive side was shit and that’s why Mancini didn’t want him as a defensive/central midfielder when he first arrived and probably just wanted to test the kid..
we actually played with wingers when shaqiri arrived, but we didn’t perform well and there was no balance. however nxt season we will most likely play a 4-2-3-1 formation

Yes, Kovacic is not a pure attacking midfielder, so it would be better to play him as a midfielder like Xavi. I hope Kovacic can become a new Xavi. Inter really needs a classic central midfielder like Sami Khedira, Yaya Toure, Xabi Alonso, Nemanja Matic or Arturo Vidal to pair with Kovacic. At this moment, the best Inter formation is as follows in my opinion:

I would love to see Shaqiri play as he has been decent and cost us a lot of money, but Hernanes is hands down our best option at CAM currently. The only way I can see Shaq starting if Palacio gets injured and he plays as a striker, otherwise we will see him from the bench. But what I don’t understand is why bench Santon(he won’t be for this game due to card restrictions 2 CBs).

Hernanes scored a great goal on Saturday, but then disapeared for most of the game. However, I do agree that he is our best option behind the strikers, Shakiri is just too impatient and the team cannot play at his pace.
I don’t care if he subs shaq because of hernanes, whats important is the result and hernanes is the best for the trequartista role.
