“The most important thing is who scores the most goals. After the equaliser the team got more confident. In the second half we were a lot better than the first half, more balanced and created more chances. Roma had a lot of chances to go 2 goals up which would have made things a lot more difficult. Even if made a lot of errors, we always tried to play our game. We didn’t go fo the long balls instead we tried to build everything up from the back. This is our idea. Roma had a lot of chances with Dzeko, an excellent bomber, as the finisher. We made three beautiful goals and it is not easy to come here and create chances and to score. We were lucky not to concede the second goal”. These are the first comments of Luciano Spalletti on the post-game press conference.
Icardi seems to play more for the team now, but he stills scores as always. “When the team position itself low, he has to stay 12 yards outside the box, he can’t stay to up north. And he continues to score goals.”
Is this enthusiasm a sign that you have defeated a “ghost” from last year? “I think so, It is hard not to remember the failures from before. Today we performed pretty well, but as for the rest of the season we have to do better. He who has the conviction of what is the right path will get rewarded at the end.”
Was this an emotional night for you? “Are you talking about the crowd whistling? For me it is obvious. But it was nice to return to Olimpico for such an important game like this. For me this was a beatiful night”.
A victory that sets the tone for this season? “We just won a very important game, three really important points. But there are things that have to be adressed, we need some balance and we need to create more opportunities. For those situations when we didn’t handle the ball well, we face Roma. But we are Inter, we have to score, we have to play well and we have to put players in the area and in areas where there isn’t that much of a space. And we have to do that for 90 minutes. Our goal is to win every game”.
