Mauro Icardi is aiming for the national team. According to today’s edition of il Corriere dello Sport, Inter’s Argentinian bomber does not want to waste any time and after last season’s “part-time” appearance in the starting eleven, the target is to find continuity and goals. Icardi wants to cement his place as Mazzarri’s new “Edinson Cavani” in order to earn a place in the Argentina squad. The road towards la Selección starts on Sunday in the home game against Sassuolo. Maurito represented his country on one occasion last autumn, but was later excluded by Alejandro Sabella due to continuous fitness problems.
After a summer where several clubs showed interest for Icardi, Inter are looking to extend his contract before Christmas.
The Argentinian is currently earning 900 000 euros per season, scoring bonuses excluded, and will probably be looking to double his wage before signing the contract extension.
