Born in 1981, now playing for Genoa, Nicolas Burdisso has a significant past with Inter, where he won nine trophies until the transfer to Roma in 2009. The Argentine spoke with Calcio2000 in a very interesting interview in which he spoke of numerous topics and, of course, the experience at Inter. From the personal drama which in 2004 affected his family, when his youngest daughter was diagnosed with leukemia: “At the time I put football aside, I found myself in front of a very special situation, it was difficult. I was in Italy for six months and I did not feel ready to face such a big thing like leukemia in a hospital abroad, alone with my wife. I made the right choice, to stop and only think of my daughter. The club and the president gave me support, they allowed me to leave the work aside and I was lucky enough to be able to do so. I met so many people who could not stop working, who had to continue and for me this opportunity was a blessing. I put aside the national team and the world of football.”
It is said that the problem with Inter came with the arrival of Mourinho, but Burdisso denies those claims: “On the contrary, he helped me so much, I still have a good relationship with him. He is one of those coaches that you carry with you for years. The last year we won the Scudetto and I played 30 games, then they got another central defender and thought I’d change. I wanted to show my real game, during my five years in Milan I played as left back and midfielder, but never as a central defender, my favorite position. Even though Mourinho did not want me to go away, I went to Roma and until the last day we fought with Inter for the Scudetto.”
The Argentine was also close to Juventus: “After Inter and Roma it is difficult to go to a team like Juve. Not because you can’t do well, but because it needs an identity as a player. I am not a mercenary. After five years at Inter and the move to Roma I did not have the heart. It is a matter of feelings and respect for the fans.”
