In his blog for Il Sole 24 Ore journalist Marco Bellinazzo explains the agreement reached between Inter and Pirelli for a renewal of the partnership for the coming three years: “Ten million per season, about two less than the current agreement, but with a variable bonus to restore balance to the current figures. The annual numbers can indeed reach a maximum of just under fourteen million euro, with a clause linked to a possible victory of the Champions League. If Inter does indeed win the greatest continental trophy during the three years under the new agreement, the amount would be doubled. Pushing for the historic sponsorship renewal was the chemical giant China National Chemical Corporation, the new majority shareholder of Pirelli. A step forward from the east arrived a few days after Thohir’s statements about the search for possible partners in Asia, “even if the search is not limited to China”, as acknowledged indeed by the Indonesian tycoon. Thohir turned to Goldman Sachs to find new investors ready to take over the share’s of Moratti, who has hinted his desire to leave the club to Thohir before his shares decline further.”
