After the loss against Cagliari, Inter coach Frank De Boer talked to Premium Sport:
“If we are afraid of winning? After the goal we simply stopped playing. According to me this is the easiest way of playing because the opponent have to put pressure and spaces will open up for counter-attacks. We stopped playing and this is a problem.”
Icardi: “I don’t know if the current situation affected him. Normally he is a professional when it comes to situations with pressure. He played well the first half with a lot of cross passes to him, but we have to be more decisive in the box. In the second half after our goal we just stopped playing.”
Difficult period: “Yes, it’s tough because I didn’t expect us to lose. We controlled the first 70 minutes and after our goal we didn’t play as we are supposed to. With all respect to Cagliari, but at home we have to win.”
Play more vicious? “If we need to play more vicious? I think we lost too many balls on the midfield in the second half and that’s not ok. It’s not a question about luck but we just forgot how to play. The only reason for losing this game.”
Offensive play: Our wingers and centre midfielders have to support the attackers in the attacking phase. We talked about this during halftime since only one of them supported Icardi in the box. But also the centre midfielders have to get to that area. Joao Mario did exactly that and scored today.”
Icardi situation: “On which side I am? It’s a situation that I don’t want to talk about, we’ll talk about it tomorrow with all respect to Icardi and the fans. The captain’s armband? We’ll talk about it tomorrow.”
