Speaking at Inter’s Marbella winter training base, Joao Mario answered a series of questions from fans on Inter’s Facebook page, here’s what the Portuguese had to say:
What have the squad been doing while on the retreat?
“We are working hard to prepare for Sunday’s game.”
How has the retreat been?
“We have worked so hard since our arrival, we must prepare for the challenge of Udine in the best way possible.”
Do you prefer a certain role over another in the midfield?
“I prefer to be the attacking midfielder, but now the most important thing is to help Inter. So being a central midfielder or regista is fine too.”
How did you feel upon arriving in Milan?
“I really like the city, people have helped me. I am very happy to be here, now I want to improve and reach the Champions League.”
Who are you close to at Inter?
“Gabigol, I often talk with him because we speak the same language; he’s a friend.”
What else can the team gain from the time remaining in Marbella?
“We can work well and create team spirit. It is important to work well for Sunday where a crucial match awaits.”
How did you find your presentation at the San Siro?
“It was a memorable moment for me, it was special. I’ll never forget it, it was a beautiful day too.”
How did you find your debut?
“I debuted in Pescara, it was a wonderful feeling. Then to see all those people against Juventus was amazing.”
Have you any advice for Gabigol?
“He’s young and talented, he should keeping working but his presence is positive for the team. He’s a great player and will have more room to play now.”
What is your best skill?
“It’s hard to talk about myself … I like to keep the ball and help the team. I like to play with intelligence. ”
What are the differences between the Portuguese and Italian leagues?
“This is a very specific league, where every team has excellent players and defend well. It is very different from the Portuguese league which is much more physical.”
What experience can you bring to Inter after winning the Euro’s with Portugal?
“In France we won because we were very united and we believed in our qualities, I hope that Inter can win this year with the help of my experience.”
What are your goals for 2017?
“I think that I can always improve, the last year has been very good and I think I can improve further in order to help Inter reach the top.”
Can Inter get back in the top three?
“It is mathematically possible, therefore we obviously believe as a team that we can.”
What do you think of Suning’s involvement with Inter?
“They’re helping me a lot and Inter. I found the ideal conditions here to strive and reach the Champions League.”
Do you prefer scoring goals or assists?
“It’s better the assist, because I’m good at that. But scoring is beautiful and I hope to be able to score many more at the San Siro.”
