Former referee Paolo Casarin today wrote about the effectiveness and fruition of the VAR system on today’s edition of Corriere della Sera. Casarin conducted two matches in 1982 World Cup and also supervised UEFA Euro 1988.

Inter yesterday were awarded a penalty through VAR, through which the Nerazzurri Captain Mauro Icardi broken the deadlock. The former referee reflected his thought on that and wrote today:

It is true that plenty of time is sometimes lost due to VAR. It interrupts the fluency. The referees slow down the match at some decisive moments. But the usage of the technology is very much required. It can not be ignored specially when the ultimate outcome is beneficiary for everyone. Even though it might be after 5 minutes but he possible errors are coming out at last. The penalty which was granted to Inter yesterday was one of the prime examples of the efficacy of the system.
