Legendary Bayern Munich striker Giovane Elber commented on the recent media rumours linking Inter captain Mauro Icardi with the reigning Bundesliga champions.

“He is a great striker, he is great on the ball and is already a leader,” he told German outlet Bild.

Reports have surfaced in both Italy and Germany in recent days stating an interest from Bayern for the former Sampdoria man, who Elber believes would succeed should a move come to fruition.

He concluded, “Although he is very young, he is a player who could do very well at Bayern.”

Elber scored 92 league goals in 169 league outings for the Bavarian based club during a six year spell. In comparison, 24-year-old Icardi has netted 82 league goals in 137 Serie A games for the Nerazzurri. 11 of Icardi’s 82 goals have come this season as he has played a crucial role in helping Inter to maintain an unbeaten start after 12 games played.
