Inter’s Sporting Director Piero Ausilio stopped by Premium Sport moments before kick-off between Genoa and the Nerazzurri at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to give his traditional pre-match interview.

Ausilio began by commenting on what Spalletti said during his pre-match press conference saying that: “I think that he wanted to emphasize the merit of the team that until now has done exactly what was asked of them at the beginning of the season. Our points are enough to be in the Champions League qualification zone and we need to continue like this and do better until the end of the season.”

Ausilio was then asked about the rumors surrounding the negotiations concerning Mauro Icardi’s contract extension replying that: “I think that this coming week will be the right moment to relaunch him back on to the pitch. He is always generous and available but we did not want to risk him. Regarding the renewal I have always said that there are no problems with him. We have a long contract and he has expressed a desire to see if the conditions permit us to do something different. There have been no particular requests from neither him nor his entourage. When the time is right we will do what we need to do.”

In conclusion Ausilio stated that: “Spalletti wants to stimulate everyone now the players have to show this on the pitch. Before signing anyone we have to look at what we have and that when it comes to scoring goals who can score more. Candreva has worked very hard for the team but it is very strange that he has not scored yet. Karamoh is just beginning, Vecino has adapted well so we have the resources. Spalletti has tried to give balance to the team by not conceding then looking to score a goal. If we always win by 1-0 it will be perfect.”
