Former Inter forward and Argentine legend Gabriel Batistuta spoke on Mauro Icardi’s chances of being a part of the Argentina squad that will go to this summer’s fast approaching World Cup in Russia.

Batistuta firstly gave his opinion on the ongoing debate about who is the superior striker between Mauro Icardi and Gonzalo Higauin.

Pipita [Higuain] in my opinion is at the top as he is doing very well. Icardi is on a par with him but the only difference is that Higuain has been at the top for years.”

Batistuta, who most famously played for Fiorentina, then discussed if it is possible that Icardi may be snubbed for the World Cup.

“Absolutely not, the World Cup deserves both players,” he concluded.

Between them this season, Inter captain Icardi and former Real Madrid forward Higuain have scored 44 goals, with each of them both grabbing 22 for their respective clubs in all competitions.
