Stefan de Vrij leaving Lazio at the end of the season is one of the worst kept secrets, as is the club he will be joining once he does, Inter.

The central defender is understood to have a long standing agreement in place with Inter over a summer transfer despite Lazio president Claudio Lotito’s best efforts to keep him at the Stadio Olimpico.

Ahead of de Vrij’s farewell from the capital, Gazzetta dello Sport have picked up on the fact that his present club will be taking on his future club on the final match day and questioned how it will affect the Dutchman.

“It is an absolutely unique situation, with the fixture list for the last day seeing direct clash between the two teams that will almost certainly determine which of the two will go into Champions League.

“A unique script that puts De Vrij in the worst psychological condition possible. It is written so the player has to fight his own future [Inter] because the duties of a professional come before everything.”
