Foreign clubs have five days to activate Mauro Icardi’s €110 million release clause but everything suggests at the moment that the Argentine striker will be remaining with Inter for the forseeable future according to a report from Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Once the release clause expires on Sunday for another year, contract renewal talks will begin with Inter wishing to tie him down for a further two years until the end of the 2022/23 season with a salary between €5-6 million per season. Other reports have suggested that Icardi’s agent and wife Wanda Nara is holding out for closer to €8 million however.

The release clause is likely to be spoken about in talks and it could either be raised greatly or removed completely. The second scenario would allow Inter complete control if and when offers arrive for the 25-year-old whose 29 goals in 34 Serie A games helped Inter make their long awaited return to the Champions League for the coming season.
