Former Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar has admitted that it was difficult for him to leave the Nerazzurri over the summer.

The Brazilian shot-stopper departed the San Siro for Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League, but has conceded that it was hard to leave behind his ‘football family’.

“To leave Inter was difficult for me,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “The club was like a family to me – the President, my teammates and especially the fans. At Inter I had some of the best moments of my career.

“To tell you the truth, I do not understand what happened. I went to [Inter President] Massimo Moratti, and we talked for 15 minutes. When I left, I was aware that he had left the door open for me to leave the club.

“When I walked away, I felt I had done so having done my job. The fans have always been close to me – during the good times and the bad times. I’ll never forget the banner that said: “Anyone who has loved and honored the jersey will certainly never be forgotten.”

He also commented on his new club, QPR, and the challenges facing him in England.

“I made the right choice to come here,” he said. “Now I have a new motivation. I want to see, up close, what English football is all about, and I think I have many goals yet to be achieved.”
